Sniper – the best trained marksman

After watching the Discovery series about Snipper, I really want to post something here.

Snipper Rifle

From my personal experience, in action video game (I love it!) such as Counter Strike, if your team get one or two snippers while the enemy doesn’t, then it will make a huge difference. Sinpper is extremely hard to observe and the only way to find it is track the sound when snipper firing. Unfortunatelly, sinppers have a vital rule which called "One Shot, One Kill". It means that if you heard the sound, someone was already knocked down. Meanwhile sinppers also cause huge pressure because you can’t see them, but you know they have already aimed at you and ready to take you down. It makes it even harder to search for the snipper. This is the main reason why snippers won’t have any chance to survive when caught by the enemy.

Next I would like to point out some truths about snipper:

1. Snipper is well trained.

It’s true. Only the well trained snipper can go to the battlefield. They need to spot any danger instantly and inform the troops imediately.

2. Snippers always go alone.

False. They work with the spotter as a two-man team. Spotter report the right information to the snipper and protect the FFP (final firing position) while the snipper doing his job.

3. Snipper is unbeatable.

Not really.  It is distance that protect the snipper from danger. Once you can manage the killing zone, you have chance to defeat snippers. PS: it is very, very hard. Be careful!

Just for fun! The world record distance for a snipper to shoot is an astonishing 1.5 miles! = 2.4 KM
2.4KM?  What it looks like?

Well, something like this…

Louis: Where are you??

Journal – Arcuz

Here I am going to introduce a ARPG web game which called "Arcuz". To be blank, at first I thought this game was just a simple ARPG game which won’t cost me more than 1 hour to clear, but not until I had played for 5 hours I realized that this game actually was awesome!

Let’s see the trailer first:

The visul effect is amazing for a web game! In this game, you can choose from sword, blade, or axe as your main career. What’s more, you gain points while leveling up and can choose either to strengthen your power or learn a new skill. There are up to ten different skills for you to master. After putting all the skills in right place, you can develop your own continuous hits style and try to output as huge damage as you can.

Moreover, the equipment system is also worthy to study. Each equipmentm, from armor to even necklace, has different features and functions. You can actually enhance them by accessing the comnposition. Also, there are 4 elements which are fire, thunder, ice, and poison for you to choose from. By mixing different elements, the outcome will also be different and magical. Have you ever think of stunning a monster? Try the thunder axe!

イヴの時間 – AI vs Human

 http://www.xiami.com/widget/1129622_1769650706/singlePlayer.swf

Let’s say, if, the robot is extremely intelligent and even capable of commucating with people, interacting with people, and even have feeling and spirit, how will it be?

It is raining heavily outside, and you forget to bring your umbrella. Then you see your house robot walk toward you and bring umbrella for you. How do you know that this robot is just do what they ought to do, or ,in fact, he is trying to take care of you?

Three Laws of Robotics:

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Can a robot think?

As far as I am concerned, I consider that it will be a problem for robot to act like human. AI tech, nowadays though, is able to make a walking  robot. However, for mental design part, I think it is nearly impossible to make a human-like robot. Emotion and sentiment are extraordinarily complicated so that AI tech still have lots of problems to deal with.

Journal – King Tut

I bought the National Geography magazine for reading practice. While reading, I found a really interesting article about King Tut. Instead talking more about his life, here I am going to focus on the royal family marriage system.
According to the article, Tut’s left foot was clubbed. Also there are 130 partial or whole sticks in Tut’s tomb. It was not for King Tut who held a cane which represented the power or authority, but clearly a walking stick which King Tut needed for walking.  In otehr word, King Tut suffered from this diease, or we should say, handicap.
Scientists infer that it may cause by family marriage. Tut’s father and mother was full brother and sister, and they married each other in order to leep political and economical advantages. Unfortunately, this could result in a dangerous consequence. It can leave their children to a variety of genetic defects by marrying a sibling because it will likely pass on twin copies of hramful genes. Scientists also suspect his cleft palate which may be another congenital defect.
King Tut is not the only case. Some loyal families was also detected this sort of problem. It was the evidence that overlapping genes can backfire. But marrying family members seems the only way to ensure the authority of riches, priviledge, and powers.
The solution? Well, some of the loyal families had as many as 70 kids in order to choose one kid who had no inborn disease. Moreover, royal wealth can also be a really help for medical conditions. Anyway, in order to keep the power and status, this will be a continuing story…

Journal – new redidents

   New Residents:
The new residents here doesn’t only mean those people who married to Taiwan from mainly south of Asia, but also include their children. Once upon a time, we Taiwanese have no idea how to treat these new resident’s cultural background. Instead of interacting and understanding their culture, we forced them to learn our language and values. In other words, we has assimilated them into our society in an incredible way. As a result, the new residents gradually lose their language and memories. In order to adapt to this environment, they have no choice but choose to forget their background and language.
Somehow, our government have undergone a series of activities, including teaching the new residents’ children by using their mother’s language. According to the research, most of these children are not capable of speaking their second language because their mother didn’t teach them how. On the other hand, these children have no chance to talk and practice their second language. Therefore, helping these kids learn thier mother’s cluture, language, and background is now the top priority for our government.

Journal – Resources for BBC Accent

http://www.abc.net.au/radio/   Australia News Website/ Podcasts
http://www.abc.net.au/radio/   British News Website/Podcasts

People who are already used to the American accent always complain about the BBC accent. I am not an exception, either. At first, I did have problem understanding the content while watching some BBC accent film. Instead of the sentences, I can only recognize the single word in an whole report. It was quite frastrated, certainly. What’s worse, the IELTS test was recorded in BBC accent which makes it harder for me to catch the points and answer the questions. I was always confused with "year" and "here". They look different on paper but sound similar on the tape.
Fortunately, my friends provided me with these two very useful resources. The websites cordedre each talking as mp3 format and put them on their pages so that I can download to my mp3 player. There are many choices such as medical, tech, eco, science, and even engineer which is perfect for the English Requirement Test. Most of these test chose articles from various of sources that we are not familiar with. Therefore keeping listening to the programs can not only help us gain more knowledge but also prepare us for the exam.
I need to go to Taichung for the IELTS cram school every other day so that I take the advantage of this extra time. As soon as I get on the train, I take out my mp3 player and start to practice my listening ability and give feedback after the talking is over. Several weeks later, I found out that when I do the IELTS listening test, the image is much clear than before. In other word, I can catch more sentences and do the questions without problems. How amazing!
Well, I still get one month to go. 9/25 is the deadline and I certainly believe that I can pass the test.

Journal- Expedition Wild

Casey Anderson, as a Naturalist, lives in the Yellow Stone National Park and do research on wild bears. Surprisingly, he has a brown bear, which weight 800-pound, named Brutus. He has taken care of him for over 7 years since Brutus was born in 2004. Casey Anderson claimed that Brutus is his best friend. They do interactions, playing, and even recorded some education films for children. Brutus is comfotable around people and therefore people can observe a lovely bear without worry about the danger.
When I first saw this film, I was shock and totally have no idea about this film. "Did I just see a man ride on a brown bear?" I murmured. After reading the scripts, I realized that the brown bear is actually his pet, not like those wild bears I thought in mountain. However, it is still an amazing fact taht people can really interact with a bear. My stereotype taught me that this sort of scene can be only seen in the circus. Bear is huge and can be vital. What’s more, their strong and powerful palms can  even break prey into pieces. Nevertheless, Casey Anderson breaks these myths and tries to be a true friend to mother nature. Guess what? he succeeded.

Journal – Driving is safe with a hands-free mobile

It was believed that driving while talking on the phone is more dangerous than drinkiing-and-driving. Discovery Channel have a show called "Myth Buster", which experiment varies of myths and believes. Of course, they  won’t ignore this myth. In order to test this hypothesis, Mythbusters set up two groups included cellphone-talking and alcoholic. They put this two group in a drive test and measured the time they spent on the track. Both of the two groups were asked to perform S turns, accelerate, and back a car.
For the cellphone group, they were required to drive with only one hand which exactly simulate the situation when people talking on phone and answer certain questions such as "23+25=?" "what did you do last night?" spontaneously.  For the other group, they got a easier job which was get drunk and drive. They were under control of  state polices and drunk sufficient amount of alcohol. After they reached the illegal line, which was enough to be caought as drinking driving, they needed to pass the test and be measured the time they spent.
The result? Interestingly, cellphone group did fell most of the tests on the road and spent more time than the alcoholic group. Mythbusters came up with the conclusion that people are forced to response those questions and was dictracted from driving. They couldn’t concentrate on driving and it result in serious car accidents each year. But it didn’t mean that drinking driving is safe, either. Instead, Driving while intoxicated is extremely dangerous, too. Alcohol did delay people’s RT(reaction Time) and made them hardly to react and response to the sudden incidents.
Certainly, both of these two behaviors are not encouraged to do.

But how about use a hands-free mobile?

Well, it doesn’t matter what kind of device you use. Because it is interruption that do matter when you are driving. it doesn’t influnce your drive while you use only one hand or with both of your hands. Once you are distracted from driving, it can be vital and risky.

I guess you got the same result when you are chatting with the passengers.
So, just be concentrate.

Journal – Angel Dust (PCP)

Originally I saw this name in the OVA of Hell Sing. Father Anderson has lots of code names. One of the code names is "Angel Dust". I remember that I have read this name in a medical article before. Therefore,  I searched on the Internet for further information after finishing that OVA.
Angel Dust, a kind of illegal drug in most of the world, is the street name of Phencyclidine. It was used in surgery and operation as a anesthesia in 1950s. Unfortunately, researchs found out that people who used Phencyclidine will soon be addicted to this drug. What’s worse, Phencyclidine also have side effect include severe changes in body image, loss of ego boundaries, paranoia and depersonalization, seizures, comas, and even death. As a result, doctors stopped using this drugs but it still quite popular under table and in the black market.
Just one word fior conclusion: Never, never use drugs.

Phencyclidine(PCP)
